With America’s Election Day here — and with everyone around the world on pins and needles to learn who is the next president (which we probably will not know for a wile) … we take a look at which presidents wore which watches over the years. Before moving on to the current President, let’s take a look at the current Democratic candidate in today’s election: Joe Biden. Biden has been spotted wearing an omega and also Seiko, as well as a few others – he seems to like watches. Let’s see what he chooses to wear should he win the election.
As to President Donald Trump, despite his constant waving of arms and his stern crossing of arms — watches never really seem to poke their faces out from beneath the stiff shirt cuffs. Rest assured, Trump is a busy man and time plays a role in his life just as it does in all of ours, but I’m guessing he doesn’t need a watch to time things — he sort of lives by his own rules (have you noticed?). However, he has been seen wearing a Rolex (on a golf course) and potentially a vintage Patek Philippe (at a sports event), and even launched his own Donald Trump Signature Collection of watches back nearly 15 years ago. However, thanks to poor quality, lack of design and the fact that no one really wanted a Donald Trump watch, production quickly ceased.
Trump won’t be the first president to have his wrist examined by we watch journalists. Over the years, we have all been interested in what the Presidents wear — or don’t wear. While John F. Kennedy wore the Cartier watch his wife bought him, he (smartly) immediately gave away the watch that Marilyn Monroe gave him as a gift — never wearing it once.
Some president’s shared a love of similar watches, including the Vulcan Cricket. Presidents Harry Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower were seen wearing Vulcain Cricket alarm watches. Later, Richard Nixon wore a Vulcain Cricket alarm watch, as did Lyndon Baines Johnson, who also owned and proudly wore a Rolex. He was even know to gift Rolex watches to close friends — earning it the nickname the “President” watch. Ronald Reagan also wore a Rolex. More recently, former President Barak Obama wore a TAG Heuer and a Jorg Gray watch.
